Photo outline maker

On a picture with a transparent background, the outline follows the subject itself — sticker style, in any colour, single or double, with smoothing and a soft shadow.

Frames are rendered locally; the photograph stays in this tab.

An outline that follows the subject

A sticker border is not a rectangle round a picture; it hugs the subject. That needs the picture to say where the subject is, and a cut-out PNG already does: everything that is not the subject is transparent. This page reads that transparency at 50%, then grows the subject outward by the outline width using an exact Euclidean distance transform, so the ring is the same thickness all the way round — on curves, in corners and round thin parts alike.

Smoothing closes the narrow notches a cutter would never follow. Double outline draws an inner ring in one colour and an outer ring in another, the classic die-cut sticker look. A soft shadow under the whole sticker lifts it off the page. The canvas grows by the outline width on every side, and outside the outline the file stays clear in PNG and WebP, ready to drop onto anything.

Outlining a cut-out

  1. 1Open a PNG or WebP with a transparent background.
  2. 2Set the outline width under Border; turn on Double outline for two rings.
  3. 3Adjust Smoothing and Shadow, and the colours under Colour.
  4. 4Save as PNG or WebP to keep the space outside the outline clear.

Limits worth seeing before export

  • Semi-transparent edges, such as hair, are read at 50% opacity, so very fine wisps may sit just inside or just outside the outline.
  • Large cut-outs take a moment longer to outline, because every pixel’s distance to the subject is measured exactly.

Questions about the rendered frame

Why is my outline just a rectangle?
Because the picture has no transparent background, so its edge is its rectangle. The outline follows the subject only on a cut-out — a PNG or WebP where everything but the subject is clear. Open one of those and the outline wraps the shape. Finding the subject in an ordinary photo needs an on-device model this page does not offer yet.
How wide can the outline be?
As wide as a quarter of the picture’s short edge in percent, or any number of pixels in the px unit. The canvas grows by the outline width on every side, so the outline is never cut off at the edge of the file.
What does Smoothing do?
It rounds off narrow gaps and sharp inward corners in the outline — between fingers, round a spiky leaf — the way a cutter would trim a sticker. At zero the outline follows every notch exactly.
Is anything uploaded to find the edge?
No. The edge is read from the picture’s own transparency in this tab, and the outline is computed here with a distance transform. No model and no server is involved.
