About this frame shelf

PictureBorder draws a border onto the outer edge of a photograph and gives you the file back. Everyday styles — clean, rounded, film strip, instant print, scrapbook, soft vignette — and decorative ones: scallops, deckles, tears, glows, shadows, stripes and checks. You pick one from tiles drawn on your own picture, take its colour from the photo, set how thick it is and how its corners turn, and save.

It runs entirely in the browser tab you have open. There is no account, no queue and no server holding your picture while it waits its turn, because there is no server at all behind this page — it is a set of static files, and the drawing happens on your own machine.

A border can be given by eye, as a share of the picture's short edge, or exactly: in pixels, or in millimetres and inches at a print resolution you choose, the same on every side or different on each. A fit option places the whole picture, uncropped, on a canvas of an exact size — an Instagram 4:5 post, a 4 × 6 inch print — and lets the border take up the rest.

It does not place free text or stickers on a picture, rebuild the photograph with an effect, or generate new picture content. This one is the edge, and the space around it.

Cookie-free Cloudflare Web Analytics counts aggregate page visits and performance, on the live pictureborder.com domain only. It can see a page address, referrer and coarse device or location category, but it cannot see a photograph under any configuration because the photograph never leaves the tab. PictureBorder is built and run by a small independent team. The frames are generated from records rather than drawn as images, so if one of them is wrong the fix is arithmetic rather than redrawing a file — which is the main reason the library can be extended without the site getting heavier.
